What is Decision '08?

On May 1, 2008, iCue rolls out with a politically-themed collection of games and activities highlighting Decision '08. Join your friends in political debate and challenge your knowledge of the candidates, political process and issues in this election and in past elections.

On the Decision '08 Home Page, you'll find:

  • The Daily Thought Starter – a video featuring current events that tie to the 2008 Presidential Election.
  • The Question of the Day – test your knowledge about the candidates, campaigns, issues and events.
  • Topics – all of the iCue resources for Decision '08 and previous Presidential Elections are assembled here. Browse through this easy-to-use Outline and click on any topic to see what kind of videos and resources are available!

From any iCue page, click on the Decision '08 Home Page button, located in the upper right corner under the Search box.

What kind of content is available for Decision '08?

iCue has assembled a rich variety of videos, political ads, debates, historical coverage and documents to bring Decision '08 alive. You can share these resources with your Friends, discuss them in the Forums, and even play cutting-edge games with them. And of course, use these resources to study, complete your homework assignments, for research or just to learn!

 
What is the Thought Starter?

The Thought Starter is a video highlighted by the iCue team each day. It's intended not only to add an important and current story to our Decision '08 content, but to spark lively discussion and debate in the Thought Starter section of the Forums. A question accompanies each daily Thought Starter to – you guessed it – get your thoughts started!

Tip: The Thought Starter is a Cue Card that you can snag and personalize.

How do I join a discussion about the Thought Starter?

Simply click the Discuss button at the bottom of the Thought Starter, and you will directed right to the page in the Forums where the discussion is taking place.

If you missed a Thought Starter, you can find previous Thought Starter discussions archived in the Forums.

What is the Question of the Day?

The Question of the Day is a single multiple choice question that you can answer with a click of a button on the Decision '08 Home Page. Test your knowledge about the candidates, the campaigns, the issues and past elections.

To answer the Question of the Day:

  1. If you think you know the answer right away, select a radio button next to the answer you'd like to select.
  2. Click the Submit button at the bottom.
  3. If you are correct, a check mark will fill the radio button you selected.
  4. If you are incorrect, a red X will fill the radio button you selected.

Tip: If you'd like a Hint before you answer the question, click on the thumbnail image that accompanies the Question of the Day. Remember, you can snag this Cue Card if you like!

How many attempts am I allowed to answer the Question?

Only one! You can change your answer as many times as you'd like before you click the Submit button.

Do I get any points for answering the Question of the Day?

Not yet, but we plan to introduce points for the Question of the Day in a later release, which will be added to your overall score (along with your Game Challenge points).

Where can I find previous Multiple Choice Questions?

Currently there is no archive of the Question of the Day, but we're working on it for a later release, along with scoring!

What are Topics?

We've broken down Decision '08 into easy-to-navigate Topics, which you can find in the far right column of the Decision '08 Home Page. Click on any arrow next to a Topic and you'll see additional sub-topics.

Here are some of the Topics you'll find in Decision '08:

When you click on the text of any Topic or Sub-Topic, the page displays all of the iCue resources that support that part of the Topic List. Click on any thumbnail to view the Resource in our patented Cue Card, which is a video player, flash card, note-taking tool, and trading card all rolled into one

What are Resources?

Resources are all the video, audio, documents and images in the iCue library that corresponds to the Topic you've selected from the Topic List.

Features of List View:

  • More information about the Cue Card is displayed, such as Title, Description, Dates and Type.
  • You can Sort the Cue Cards by column.

To View Resources:

  1. Click on the arrow next to the Topic that interests you.
  2. Continue to click on the sub-Topics, if you'd like.
  3. Click on the text of the Topic or sub-Topic to display the Resources, which will populate the rest of the page with Cue Card thumbnails.
  4. Click on any thumbnail to open the Cue Card.
What is Thumbnail View?

Thumbnail View is the default view for displaying Search Results and Resources that relate to Topics. Included in Thumbnail View are brief titles above each thumbnail image and a unique "rollover" that pops up when you hold your cursor over the thumbnail for a few seconds.

The rollover contains helpful information such as:

  • Full Title of the Resource
  • Air/Publish Date
  • Event Date
  • Description
  • Resource Type (video, audio, document or image)
  • Clip Duration or Page Numbers

Can I snag a Cue Card from Thumbnail View?

Yes! You snag a Cue Card from anywhere in iCue.

What is List View?

List View displays Search Results, and the Resources that relate to Topics, in a list without Thumbnail images. In List View, you can see more information about the Cue Card such as Title Description, Dates and Type. Also in List View, you can Sort the Cue Cards by column. If the Title, Description or Dates are too long for the Column, a small pop-up with the full information will display upon rollover.

To sort the Cue Cards in List View:

  1. Click any column text at the top (Title, Description, Type or Date)
  2. The list re-orders alphabetically or numerically, depending on the column selected.

Can I snag a Cue Card from List View?

Yes! You snag a Cue Card from anywhere in iCue.

What are Links?

To help reduce the time you spend searching the Internet for resources and research, we've assembled many links to external websites that relate to the Topics. These websites have been carefully vetted by the iCue team, and only include .gov, .edu and a few .orgs.

Click on any point in the Topic outline, and if there are any external Links available for that Topic, the Links Tab will appear behind the Resources tab.

To go to a Link:

  1. Click on the Links tab. A list of Links (title and web address) will display.
  2. Click on any Link that you would like to visit.
  3. The website will open in a new browser window.

Will I leave iCue if I click on a Link?

No. The website will open in a new window, and iCue will remain opened and available in the current browser window.
